Description
The clean, appetising nose shows subtle citrus fruit with just a puff of smoke. Firm and smooth, it begins sweetly then yields a fragrant smokiness and a sweet-smoky, lingering finish.
Caol Ila 12 Year Old is a single malt Scotch Whisky of Islay. Considered to be one of the lighter of the Islay whiskies, Caol Ila 12 Year Old has a medium body and a well-rounded flavour and will greatly impress lovers of Ardbeg, Laphroaig, and Lagavulin, with Islay’s trademark peaty and smoky flavours. Caol Ila (Gaelic for ‘the Sound of Islay’) was built in 1846 by Hector Henderson – a Glasgow businessman with a keen interest in distilling. Caol Ila is hidden in a quiet cove near Port Askaig. Many consider this locality to be the wildest and most picturesque of the island. Situated on Loch Nam Ban, the site is ideal thanks to the abundant supply of good water.
- 89 Points – Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2019. “A telling improvement on the old 12YO with much greater expression and width.”
